LONG ISLAND KAYAK CLUB

USING
YOUR OWN KAYAK
|
THE
POLICY ON USING YOUR OWN BOAT HAS BEEN REVISED
If you want
to use your own kayak ( canoe, inflatable, pedal-boat, sit-on-top, etc.)
to participate in club trips and events – you can now do so. The
conditions are as follows. You will
have to sign a waiver acknowledging the following: If you
cannot keep up with the group (who are usually beginners and first timers)
using YOUR boat, You will be
on your own 1) you can
try and follow or 2) you
can return to the start – the choice is yours 3) you will
be responsible for yourself 4) we will
not wait for you or tow you For years
now people have been asking to participate in club trips or join the club
with their own boats which were deemed by me as unacceptable – or
inappropriate – either too small, too slow , generally unsafe
and not seaworthy, Canoes, Inflatables, Ocean Kayaks ( too wide / too
tippy ) etc. Long
Island Kayak Club rents only High Quality, Composite, Touring and
Recreational Kayaks. It is not
fair to those paddling high quality, expensive, safe and appropriate
touring kayaks to penalize them and have them continuously waiting for
people in smaller, cheaper, inappropriate, less efficient and sometimes
unsafe boats! If you are young, strong and in good physical condition, you
may be able to keep up – if you are not, it is unlikely
that you can keep up. FEES
AND MEMBERSHIPS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE SO MAKE SURE YOU ARE AWARE OF THESE
RESTRICTIONS !!!! Guidelines for buying a kayak Recreational and Touring Kayaks are most appropriate for most
of our trips
